Calling all students starting their first year in secondary school and anyone else who wants to improve their reading and writing skills. Begin the new year with brighter and bolder ways to write by learning first and foremost to read better. How To Increase Your Word Power ~ Jan 17

Learn how having a fundamental grasp of parts of speech and semantics, diction and etymology can help you read with a greater level of prose appreciation and comprehension. We’ll also discuss formal and informal registers and share some practical tips to increase word power.

*

The Lighter Side of Grammar ~ Jan 24

Conjugation, subjunctives, imperative, conditional mood, voice. If these terms sound vaguely familiar or entirely new, this workshop will help you see how getting acquainted with them will help you achieve better control over the types of sentences you can write and to inspire sentence variety in your prose.

How to Make Your Sentences Sing ~ Jan 31

Most of us think that writing must sound and look like writing. The contrary is true. Writing must sound like speaking, like prose that sings in the ear. Learn how to sharpen the ear to the music in language, and to read with a more disciplined eye to catch its rhythm and inflections.

Imagery, Metaphors, and Me ~ Feb 14

The study of literature may be daunting to most, but we’ll help you see how it can not only help you read better, but also write and think better. We’ll invite you to walk through the door of poetry and imagery where we can reap lessons on creativity, originality, and the skills of observation.
