Wherever You Go, Go With All Your Heart

(Image: Mantraband)

WHEREVER you go, go with all your heart,
Take flight, surrender, say hello, stay present,
Why fret, why fear, all you need is just to start.

Endeavors with no heart tend to fall apart—
That’s precisely what Confucius meant:
Wherever you go, go with all your heart.

The journey of a thousand miles calls for one art,
that our first step rises up like the main event,
Why stall, why wait, all you need is just to start.

All great journeys aren’t forged just with the heart,
Some Herculean courage in us must be spent,
Wherever you go, go with all your heart.

The perfectionist always lives for a fresh start:
Nothing’s right, she cries, let’s reinvent!
Why brood, why whine, come on, just start!

Life’s short, it doesn’t have to be a work of art!
It’s a river, an oyster, a continent.
Wherever you go, go with all your heart,
Why wait the brooding hours, let’s just start!

Wherever You Go, Go With All Your Heart
(Homage to Confucius)

And the Wish Dish For Our Canteen Is? Katsudon!

Katsudon (Image: Tabelog)

It’s an idea for Auntie Ling, the stall owner of Oishii, the most popular stall in our canteen, serving up wonderful Japanese food for five years now. We’d love her to introduce this one iconic Japanese rice dish. It’s called katsudon. Continue reading

The Best Things In Life Are Free

Photo: notonthehighstreet.com

ALMOST everything in this world costs something. A run or a stroll in the park is free, but factor in the parking, or the bus fare to get there, then it’s not. Otherwise, the trees, the greenery, the fresh air is free. But think again, the trees are there, thanks to taxpayers. And the fresh air, oh, that’s thanks to Indonesia when they aren’t busy burning palm oil trees.

So what exactly are the beautiful things in life that are free, absolutely free? Continue reading

Who’s Afraid of Roller Coasters?

THE thing about fear is that the more you run away from it, the more it comes after you. Until you actually confront it, it wouldn’t go away. I guess it’s like what Oscar Wilde once said: “The only way to get rid of temptation is to yield to it.” So if I crave chocolate, I go eat chocolate. And if I’m scared of roller coasters, I get on one with dread and fear, but a pretend lionheart. Continue reading
